Voglio dedicare il mio post di oggi a 2 creature di notevole importanza in Nuova Zelanda. A differenza di quanto stiate pensando, NON vi parlerò della scontata pecora ma, bensì, di 2 creature molto più piccole:
il primo è l’amatissimo e notturno Kiwi, che per quanto sia quasi impossibile da vedere (a parte in cattività), è una creatura così importante per questo paese, tanto da dare il nome anche agli umani, abitanti dello stesso. Questo piccolo mammifero (***NO, uccello***), è tanto tenero ed innocuo che non farebbe male a nessuno ed anche se volesse non ne sarebbe in grado!!!
Purtroppo, nonostante tutti gli sforzi da parte dell’ uomo per salvaguardarlo, il kiwi è in pericolo di estinzione!
Io ne ho visto solo uno di notte, sulla strada (non con te Elena) e per la cronaca quasi contribuivo alla sua estinzione, a bordo di un camper, ma non guidavo io! Se l’avessimo investito, oltre a contribuire alla sua estinzione, avrebbe causato anche la nostra: mi sarei suicidata dopo aver strangolato l’autista!

The post of today is about the most important NZ’s creatures … and no, not the sheep but the Kiwis and the Opossum!
The first is the beloved Kiwi. He is very difficult to see in the wild because he lives during the night! He can’t fly and he is very tender and harmless, he would not do something bad to anybody and even if he wanted, would not be able to do it!!!
This small bird, is so loved from the Newzelander that, even they, are called in the same way: KIWI.
Unfortunately, despite all the efforts aside the human to safeguard him, the kiwi is in danger of extinction!
I have seen only one of them! It was during the night on the road on board of a van. We almost killed him but fortunately I wasn’t driving! If we had invested him, besides contributing to his extinction, we would also have caused ours: I would have committed suicide after having strangled the driver!

Il nostro secondo amico è l’ Opossum! I neozelandesi odiano questo animaletto almeno tanto quanto amano il Kiwi!
A differenza del Kiwi, l’ Opossum è molto facile da incontrare… vivo ma perlopiù morto o imbalsamato in qualche negozio di suvenir!

The Opossum is our second friend! The Newzelander hate this little animal, at least, so much as much they love the Kiwi!
Unlike the Kiwi, the Opossum is very easy to be met… alive but above all dead or embalmed in the shops!

Durante il RoadTrip per il lungo e il largo della Nuova zelanda, mentre guidavo spensieratamente, vagando per le deserte e affascinanti strade della South Island in compagnia di Elly, canticchiavo allegramente le canzoni che il nostro mp3 gracidava dalle deboli casse… Elena, di tanto in tanto, nel tentativo di salvarci la vita, richiamava l’attenzione dalla mia guida distratta, incantata ad ammirare la bellezza dei paesaggi! 
Insomma, per farla breve:
mentre cercavamo di evitare la morte, ecco spuntare il nostro amico opossum e piazzarsi in mezzo alla strada, immobile, come per sfidarci… 
Con una manovra roccambolesca e sotto gli insulti di Elena, sono riuscita ad evitare la sua (e la nostra) morte che, in caso contrario, in pochi giorni, subendo il calpestaggio di centinaia di auto, sarebbe diventato un fossile facente parte dell’asfalto della strada!
Nei giorni successivi ci è capitato di incontrare dozzine di Opossum calpestati, (già fossilizzati o freschi di investimento)!
Al che mi sono chiesta come fosse possibile, vista la poca percorrenza che subiscono le strade neozelandesi, che tanti Opossum possano essere investiti! 
Inoltre si sono verificate diverse situazioni analoghe ma per fortuna guidava Elena. Con altrettante roccambolesche manovre e sotto le mie preghiere e gridi, siamo sempre riuscite ad evitare l’opossumcidio. 
Ma ora mi chiedo: mhhh, ma avremo fatto bene???
Bhe, pochi giorni dopo ho scoperto che, questo altrettanto simpatico mammifero (a mio parere), è accusato dai neozelandesi di essere la causa dell’estinzione dei Kiwi e della devastazione delle coltivazioni!
Tanto è vero che i Neozelandesi, in igualmaniera di come cercano di salvaguardare i Kiwi, cercano di estinguere l’ Opossum!!! Li odiano! 
Insomma, si è creata una sorta di sport nazionale: il Roadkill Possum!!!
In poche parole: si dà la caccia all’ opossum cercando di investirne il più possibile!
Secondo loro non è possibile essere stati in Nuova Zelanda senza averne investito almeno uno!

During the Road Trip trough New Zealand, while I was distractly driving, wandering and fascinating about the amazing landscape, singing the songs that croaked from the weak boxes of our MP3 player… sometimes Elly had to remind me to drive seriusly! 
So, while we were trying to avoid the death, suddently our friend opossum came to the road and place himself in the middle of the road, immovable, as to challenge us …:shock:
With a difficult manoeuvre and under the insults of Elly I finally have succeeded in avoiding his (and ours) death !
In the following days we met dozens of stamped Opossum on the road. I wondered how was possible that so many Opossums can be run over if there are so few cars on the road!
Analogous situations are occurred to us again but luckily, Elly was driving! Lucky us we have always succeeded in avoiding the dead of the Opossum.
But now, I wonder : had we done well???
Few days later I have discovered that, the Opossum is accused by the Newzealander to be the cause of the extinction of the Kiwis and the devastation of the cultivations!
The Newzealander are trying to safeguard the Kiwis in the same way as, they are trying to extinguish the Opossum!!! They really hate them!
A sort of national sport is created: the Roadkill Possum!!!
In few words: they are hunting the Opossum on the roads trying to invest them much as possible!
They think, is impossible you have been in New Zealand without having invested at least one of them!
